David Campbell has received the Silver Medal from the American Advertising Federation of the Midlands (AAF).
The Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.
Campbell’s honor represents just the seventh time AAF of the Midlands has bestowed the award since 1993. He joins three other honorees from Chernoff Newman: Van Newman (1977), Marvin Chernoff (1992), and Peter Wertimer (1994).
A panel of judges from each local club selected Silver Medal recipients, using the following criteria:
- Contribution to His/Her Company – The recipient must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service.
- Creative Ability – The recipient must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in their field.
- Contributions to the General Advancement of Advertising – The recipient must have worked to increase the stature and raise the standards of the advertising profession.
- Contributions to the Community – The recipient should be someone who has been active in civic, religious, or other groups dedicated to human or social welfare.
Campbell joined the agency in 1993. In 2002, he was named president and chief operating officer. Campbell serves on a number of state and local boards and commissions. He is on the Advisory Board for the College of Charleston School of Communications. He is the Past President of AAF of the Midlands, the Past Chair and current Board Member for the National Kidney Foundation of SC; a Foundation Board member and former Treasurer for the Richland County Public Library; the Commission Chair for the SC Department of Consumer Affairs; Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Historic Columbia Foundation; Board Member of the United Way of the Midlands, and a Trustee for Claflin University.
