Emily Brady manages public relations and public affairs for the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, and in this Op-Ed for the Columbia Regional Business Report published in March 2009, she discusses the importance of branding local products and commodities to give them an identity in our ever expanding global marketplace. The article uses the case study of the Certified SC Grown campaign in South Carolina to explain how branding locally grown produce is an economic development tool for agriculture and can be applied to other industry segments.
