Team Tiffany at the Midlands Heart Walk
On September 16, 2015, our own Tiffany Bastian made a call that she never expected to make. She woke with intense pains in her chest – pains that she would usually ignore – but something told her she needed to call the paramedics this time. Thank goodness that she did, because 15 minutes after being taken to the emergency room, she went into the first of three episodes of cardiac arrest.
Tiffany had a blood clot in her heart that was not responding to any medications, and the doctors and nurses at the Palmetto Health Heart Hospital were concerned that she was not going to make it. When they finally found a medication that would work, Tiffany woke up the next morning, miraculously without any brain damage.
Earlier this month, 23 members of the Chernoff Newman team, including Tiffany, participated in the American Heart Association’s 2016 Midlands Heart Walk. The team came together with matching “Team Tiffany” t-shirts and made the 5K trek through downtown Columbia. Chernoff Newman was also a major corporate sponsor, and the team was excited to see the Chernoff Newman logo on the stickers and the starting and finishing line banners.
The 2016 Midlands Heart Walk had over 6,000 participants and raised over $460,000 for the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association team was inspired after hearing Tiffany’s story at the event and will be telling it in an upcoming newsletter.
