What’s the difference between a web app and a native app?

Somewhere along the way, you’ve heard someone say “there’s an app for that.” But did you know that there are different types of apps? When we first launched the Fresh on the Menu app last year, it was a web app – meaning you could access it from your mobile device but it was actually a website that looked and felt like an app.

Now, we’ve taken the extra steps to introduce Fresh on the Menu as a native app. And by native, we mean you go to the app store, download it for free and the app lives on your mobile device. With this transition, we’ve added in some new functionality – like social sharing and a favorites list – as well as a number of new restaurants to preview. Once you’re there, you’ll still be able to geolocate restaurants that source at least 25% of their food locally, read bios on the chefs who run the restaurants, view recipes for you to try at home and links to the farms that provide the Certified SC Grown products.
