As we begin to see the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, it is easy to forget how much insecurity and doubt we faced at the onset of COVID-19. We can easily look back with 20/20 vision, but at the time any number of possibilities could have been ahead for our communities, economy and country. Reinventing One Region was one of them.

Working together towards a common goal

Here in the South Carolina Lowcountry, a group of business, community and government organizations worked together on reinventing One Region to establish a framework in response to the escalating impact of COVID-19, led by the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Medical University of South Carolina and the Charleston visitor’s bureau, along with other businesses and leaders. Chernoff Newman joined the group in providing capabilities that included strategic communications counsel, creative and public relations support.

Reinventing One Region - Guidelines

Putting the plan in action

Over a six-month period, Chernoff Newman helped the One Region task force design, communicate and promote the economic recovery plan for the Charleston area.

An online dashboard and informational hub were created to keep the community aware of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the region. Chernoff Newman also helped create and promote One Region Ready, a campaign to help businesses find the tools to communicate with their customers that they were open for business and abiding by all safety protocols.

Throughout 2020, One Region gained significant earned media, community adoption and attention from local and statewide elected officials who touted it as a key tool in returning our region to work safely.

Reinventing is sometimes necessary

In case you didn’t know, Chernoff Newman’s capabilities are vast. For this project, we focused on three areas of our capabilities: strategic communications counsel, creative and public relations support. What areas do you need help with? Complete this short form and I’ll be in touch.
