Some honors recognize achievement. Others recognize a lifetime of showing up, leading well and giving back. The American Advertising Federation (AAF) Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal Award does exactly that, making it a fitting honor for Chernoff Newman Chief Executive Officer David Campbell.
Presented by the AAF, the Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal is one of the organization’s highest honors, recognizing individuals whose dedication, leadership, and service have made a lasting impact on both the federation and the advertising profession.
For anyone who knows David, this recognition comes as no surprise.
Throughout his career, David has been a steadfast advocate for the advertising industry, generously sharing his time, expertise, and leadership. As the current National Chair of the AAF Council of Governors, he has helped strengthen the organization and champion the work of local advertising communities across the country.
His commitment to service extends well beyond the industry. David has devoted his leadership to organizations that shape education, culture, and community throughout South Carolina. Over the years, he has served as commission chair for the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, chaired the board of Historic Columbia, served on advisory boards for the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina, and contributed his financial expertise as a foundation board member and former treasurer of the Richland County Public Library. Today, he continues his commitment through board service with the Ronald McDonald Housing Corp., United Way of the Midlands and Claflin University.

The Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal recognizes decades of service, but more importantly, it recognizes the kind of leader who makes people and organizations around him stronger. We’re incredibly proud to see David receive this well-deserved honor and grateful for the example he sets every day.
